Screws or Nail

Apr 13
Power went out at 11am, and never came back. Good thing we had a solar panel and battery which provides power for the tools (circular saw and electric drill).  For connecting the pieces together, we were debating whether to use:
  • Kreg jig + pocket holes + glue + screws    OR
  • Glue + nails
The second option is going to be a lot faster and cheaper (because nails are cheaper than screws).  Also, after I did some research, it seems that when stress is applied screws may break, whereas nails just bend and doesn't break.

For saftey measures (since we don't want someone sleeping on the top bunk to fall on the person on the bottom!) we did a test piece for both options.

Power was out for the whole night.

Thank god we had solar power for the tools, otherwise we wouldn't have been able to do anything today.  William showed me how he set up the panels on the roof.  It's really quite incredible and the power is reliable.

Here is a video showing the set up (I will upload once wifi is working)

The chicken laid another egg.  I think she will continue to lay one everyday.  They are keeping the eggs so they will hatch into chicklets. William’s dad wants to have many chickens so they can have eggs and also eat the chickens.  I asked if he had named the chickens, he said no.  I said if you name them then you cannot eat them anymore.  He laughed and said “It’ll be like one day, where did Peter go? Peter is gone because we ate him.”
